Product description

Pachy Round – A Premium Hardwood from Central African Rainforests – Thanh Lam Wood

Origin
Pachy round logs are a natural hardwood originating from the tropical rainforests of Central and West Africa, with large reserves found in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and neighboring countries. In the international market, Pachy is commonly traded as round logs and sawn timber, serving high–end applications in furniture, flooring, structural components and other premium wood projects.

1. Wood Characteristics

Appearance & Color
In round–log form, Pachy has:

Outer bark: Thick, grey–brown to dark brown, slightly rough in texture and firmly attached, providing excellent protection for the inner heartwood during harvesting and transport.

Heartwood: Deep reddish–brown with golden tones; freshly cut wood appears quite bright, then gradually darkens over time, giving a luxurious, mature “aged wood” look.

Sapwood: Lighter in color, with a narrow band clearly separated from the heartwood.

Grain: Generally straight or slightly interlocked, with relatively dense, medium–fine texture, creating a surface with good depth and character once sawn and finished.

Thanks to its warm reddish–brown palette, Pachy is highly favored for products that need a solid, robust and refined appearance over long-term use.

Physical & Mechanical Properties
Pachy falls into the heavy, hard hardwood category, with high density:

Hardness & load–bearing capacity: Very good, suitable for load–bearing structural members and high–wear surfaces.

Dimensional stability: When properly kiln–dried and treated, the wood shows low warping and checking, with stable shrinkage and expansion behavior.

Biological durability: Good resistance to termites, fungi and moisture, especially in interior environments or covered exterior applications.

Because it is hard and heavy, machining operations such as sawing, planing and turning require sharp tools, powerful machines and appropriate processing parameters to avoid chipping, burning or excessive tool wear.

2. Main Applications

Thanks to its strength, density, durability and attractive color, Pachy—once processed from round logs—is widely used in:

High–end furniture: Tables, chairs, cabinets, stair treads, handrails and exposed structural details that need to look solid and refined.

Flooring & stair systems: Ideal for heavy–duty flooring and high–traffic areas that demand strong mechanical performance.

Doors, frames & decorative cladding: Leveraging its deep reddish–brown tone and attractive grain for doors, casings, wall cladding, decorative slats and panels.

Structural timber requiring high strength: Beams, joists and support frames in timber structures or technical components where high hardness is essential.

For processing plants and woodworking factories, Pachy round logs are a valuable raw material that can be sawn into a wide range of products: flooring strips, furniture blanks, stair components, cladding boards and more, depending on market requirements.
