Product description

Sipo Round Logs – African Mahogany for Premium Interiors & Veneer – Thanh Lam Wood

Origin
Sipo round logs (scientific name Entandrophragma utile, commonly known as African Mahogany / African Sapele-type or African “Gụ đỏ / Xoan đào”) come from the tropical rainforests of West and Central Africa, mainly in countries such as Congo, Cameroon, Gabon and Ivory Coast. On the market, Sipo is traded as round logs and sawn timber, primarily serving interior furniture, veneer production and high–end architectural applications.

1. Wood characteristics
Appearance & Color

In round–log form, Sipo typically has:

Bark: Grey–brown to reddish–brown, medium thickness, slightly fissured along the grain, providing good protection for the heartwood during handling and transport.

Heartwood: Pinkish brown to reddish brown, darkening and “maturing” over time, very similar to classic mahogany species, creating a warm and elegant look.

Sapwood: Lighter in color (pale yellow or light pink), with a moderately wide band that is clearly distinguishable from the heartwood but not overly contrasting.

Grain: Usually straight and fine, sometimes slightly interlocked, giving a very smooth, even surface after finishing – ideal for applications where a refined appearance is required, such as furniture and veneer.

Overall, Sipo round logs offer a warm pink–brown to reddish–brown tone with fine, even grain, making them easy to use across a wide range of mid to high–end interior styles.

Physical & Mechanical Properties

Sipo is a medium to moderately heavy hardwood, with the following properties:

Strength & load–bearing: Good hardness and mechanical strength, suitable for long–lasting furniture, light structural components and quality joinery.

Dimensional stability: When properly dried and treated, Sipo is not prone to warping or checking, making it suitable for doors, cabinet fronts, tabletops, veneer and panel work.

Biological durability: Moderate to fairly good natural durability, with stable resistance to insects and fungi under interior conditions or sheltered exterior use.

Workability: Sipo machines well – easy to saw, plane, mill, profile, and slice into veneer. After sanding and finishing, the surface takes stain and coatings very nicely, making it an ideal material for high–end furniture factories and veneer producers.

In short, Sipo offers an excellent balance between aesthetics, durability and workability, which is why it is widely favored by mills and manufacturers.

2. Main applications

From Sipo round logs, after sawing, drying and grading, the timber can be processed into a wide variety of products for the premium interior and décor segment:

Solid wood furniture: Tables, chairs, cabinets, shelves, tabletops, beds, handrails and other solid interior components.

Doors & frames: Solid doors, door frames, casings and cabinet fronts, taking advantage of its warm pink–brown to reddish–brown color.

Flooring & staircases: Interior flooring, stair treads, handrails and skirting in high–end residential and commercial projects.

Sipo veneer: Used as face and backing veneer for plywood, kitchen cabinets, panels, wall cladding, ceilings and premium engineered–wood interiors.

Interior cladding & décor: Wall panelling, feature partitions, mouldings and decorative elements that require a smooth surface and warm wood tone.

With an appearance similar to classic mahogany / gụ đỏ but at a more competitive cost, Sipo is a highly cost–effective choice in the premium interior hardwood category, especially for projects that demand both visual refinement and reliable performance.
